Tea in the Autumn Garden
With the invitation to the Tea (about a month before the event), ask each invitee to submit a short account of a Thanksgiving tradition that they celebrate or a Fall event that they remember. Could be a recipe too. Compile them into a little booklet with a few traditional Thanksgiving poems, hymn lyrics (We Gather Together), etc.
The aroma of hot cider is a welcoming touch to this gathering!
Centerpiece Ideas:
Small stack of gardening books; small dove cote. Items from nature: pumpkins; gourds; apples; pinecones; autumn leaves that have been pressed between pages of the telephone book for 2 weeks (to prevent curling); small arrangements of fresh flowers in autumn hues (gold, red, orange, yellow); acorns; small garden figurines of squirrels; bird houses; bird figurines; branches
Other general décor: Urns or pots of orange, red-orange, yellow, purple chrysanthemums
Purchase (paper or linen) Fall-colored napkins
Ideas for some items to serve:
Cucumber sandwiches; lox and cream cheese on cocktail rounds; sliced turkey and cheese topped with a slice of olive held on with a toothpick on cocktail rounds; apple crisp; slices of banana bread, pumpkin loaf; pumpkin pie; nut bread; pecan pie; oatmeal cookies; teas, hot cider
Hostess gifts for the guests: plate with slices of banana bread/nut bread, wrapped in cellophane and tied with a ribbon of fall colors; a very large gourmet caramel apple (could be dunked in caramel, chocolate and rolled in nuts) and bound in cellophane; an autumn gardening magazine

Hi Genie,
I’m big on traditon, gifts and food. So I particularly enjoyed your idea for a Thanksgiving booklet written by your guests, your dessert ideas which are making me hungry and the inexpensive hostess gifts.
We appreciate you taking the time to share your great ideas and I’m sure others will be too!
